I agree with you about the eyes. They are supposed to be where yours are: Above the nose and not besides the mouth.
In fact, if there was a way to remove those hollow triangles, I would get rid of them.

I like your interpretation of this model better than the others, as they make the cat look strange to me.

First time I see this one and I am liking it. It has a bit of a cartoon-ish look that suits it well.

First time I saw this cat I didn't like it, because I found the facial features very confusing. Then I realized where the eyes were and I added a couple of curved folds to emphasyze them. The opinion of almost all the other folders is different: they think the eyes are those edges at the sides of the mouth (examples [link] [link]). I don't know who is right but I like it much more this way.
